The $6,000 Rule

The $6,000 Rule — Our Honest Litmus Test

Industry Insider Knowledge

Medical tourists can obtain essentially any type of elective procedure abroad. But there's a simple rule we follow to determine whether it actually makes financial sense: the $6,000 Rule.

If your procedure would cost $6,000 or less in the U.S., you may not realize meaningful savings by traveling internationally. The surgery abroad might cost $1,500 — but once you add airfare, hotel, and travel costs, you may only break even.

💡 Example: A $5,000 hernia repair may cost $1,200 abroad — but $3,000–$4,000 in travel means little to no savings. In that case, a domestic free-market surgery center is the smarter choice.

The $6,000 Rule is one of the first things we discuss on your call — because our job is to point you toward the best value for your situation, not to push you toward international travel if it doesn't make sense.

Is This Right for You?

Medical Tourism Isn't for Everyone. And We'll Tell You That Upfront.

Over 30% of the inquiries we receive ultimately determine that overseas healthcare isn't the right fit. That's actually a good sign — it means we've done our job objectively.

About 70% of our clients elect to move forward, receive their surgery, and return home with complete satisfaction. And when they do, the savings are life-changing.

One final piece of advice we give every client: Never choose your surgeon solely based on price. You must understand all aspects of your options to find the very best value — not just the lowest price.

Judson Anglin — Pioneer of U.S. Medical Tourism

In 2003, Judson quit his consulting career after an ER visit in Bangkok cost him $16 — and launched MedRetreat, the first U.S.-based medical tourism company. He facilitated hundreds of procedures at JCI-accredited hospitals across six countries, served as Interim Board Member at Johns Hopkins International Hospital, and was named #1 Best Speaker at FreedomFest in Las Vegas.

After stepping away in 2009, he watched the middle class get priced out of healthcare — and came back with a broader mission: helping every American find affordable care, domestically and internationally.

Questions

What if medical tourism isn't right for me?

That's completely okay — and we'll tell you that honestly on the call. Over 30% of people we consult with determine that international travel isn't the right fit. In those cases, we focus entirely on domestic free-market options and medical cost-sharing programs that can achieve dramatic savings without leaving the country.

How do I know if my procedure qualifies for international savings?

The $6,000 Rule is our simple litmus test — if your U.S. price is above $6,000, international options typically produce meaningful savings. If it's below $6,000, domestic free-market options are usually the smarter path. We determine this together on your call.

What happens after I pay?

Immediately after payment you'll receive a confirmation email with a Calendly link to schedule your 30-minute call at a time that works for you. You'll also receive the Ultimate Guide PDF instantly.

Does Judson receive commissions from hospitals?

Never. Judson has no financial relationship with any hospital, surgery center, or provider — domestic or international. His only income comes from your consultation fee. His only obligation is to you.

What if I'm not sure which procedure I need?

That's fine — bring whatever information you have. A doctor's recommendation, a diagnosis, or even just a general description of your condition is enough to start. Judson will help you understand your options from there.

One 30-minute call could save you $15,000 to $60,000.

Most people spend weeks researching and still feel confused. One call with a 20-year insider cuts through all of it and gives you a clear, personalized plan you can act on immediately.
